New Flexible Public Transport Service for the Forest Heath Area

From 15 September 2011 people wanting to travel to and from the rural areas of Forest Heath will have access to the Suffolk Links Brecks, a new Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) service.

Suffolk Links Brecks will be a public transport service available to anyone who wants to use it and is there to enable people to get from village to village or get to fixed points within the market towns of Mildenhall, Brandon and Thetford where they can access public services they need and/or opportunities for onward travel. The service used to operate as the Brecks Bus community transport service, and is now operating with increased capacity and longer operating hours to enable it to become a fully-fledged public transport service. It is there to support and compliment existing bus services and not to duplicate and/or replace them.

The service will operate between 07:00 and 19:00 from Monday – Saturday inclusive. Fares are based on the same fare structure Suffolk County Council uses to set fares on all the public transport services it sponsors. The service accepts concessionary fare passes and will be operated by The Voluntary Network (TVN) in Newmarket, who already have a great track record in providing this type of public transport service, as they currently operate the Suffolk Links Three Towns service in the south-western part of St. Edmundsbury. They also operated the Brecks Bus community transport service mentioned earlier.

Passengers are asked to book their outward journey at least 24 hours and no more than 1 week in advance of when they wish to travel. Please note, although the vehicle operates between 07:00 and 19:00 6 days per week, the journey booking service is open between 08:00 until 16:00 from Monday – Friday. The phone number for booking journeys is 01638 664304
