Suffolk supports National Adoption Week

Suffolk’s Adoption Agency will be supporting this year’s National Adoption Week (5- 11 November) with a launch event and a number of information sessions throughout the county.

In an effort to raise local awareness the Suffolk Adoption Agency will be calling for people to come forward and express their interest in adopting a local child. There is a particular need for prospective adopters for sibling groups and children with additional needs.

Following a launch event on the 5th November from 12-12:30pm, at Endeavour House in Ipswich, Suffolk Adoption Agency will be hosting a number of lunchtime and evening ‘drop-in’ information events in November to coincide with the National Adoption Week campaign. The events that the Adoption Service are promoting are:-

  • Tuesday 13 November, The Kirkley Centre, Lowestoft. 12pm-2pm & 5pm-7pm
  • Wednesday 14 November, The Apex, Bury St Edmunds. 12pm-2pm & 5pm-7pm
  • Thursday 15 November, Dance East, Ipswich. 12pm-2pm & 5pm-7pm

National Adoption Week is organised by the British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) and aims to raise awareness of adoption and encourage potential parents to come forward. The campaign gives Suffolk Adoption Agency the opportunity to highlight their local appeal to find more prospective adopters for children in Suffolk.

Councillor Graham Newman, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for education and young people, said: “I am very pleased that Suffolk is supporting this year’s National Adoption Week, as part of our continuing effort to raise the profile of adoption in Suffolk.

"If we are to be able to find loving family homes for children who, for whatever reason, are unable to live with their birth parents, we need to continually attract new prospective adopters. We're particularly interested in meeting those able to adopt sibling groups or children with additional needs"

"I would urge anyone who is interested in finding out more about adoption to come along to one of our information events, have a look at the Adoption Service's website at www.suffolkadoption.com or to get in touch with the Suffolk Adoption Agency on 0800 389 9417"
