Suffolk set to Sort and Save

3000 ‘Sort and Save’ bags will be given away at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across Suffolk to help people organise their recycling with added ease.

From Tuesday 28 August, Suffolk householders will be able to collect a brightly coloured Sort and Save bag free of charge from their HWRCs to make storing and recycling a wide range of small or one-off items a lot more convenient.

The bags have been designed to fit easily on a worktop and have two small, one medium and one large compartment for separating and sorting a range of items that can be recycled at HWRCs,avoiding the temptation to throw them away at home.

Items can include empty aerosol cans, light bulbs, batteries, electrical items such as a radio or table lamp, cartons, glass, tools, tupperware, CDs and DVDs, pots and pans, toys, and other plastic items.

Councillor Lisa Chamber, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for environment and property management said; “This really is a great opportunity for people to organise their recycling and avoid throwing away random one-off items that they feel do not warrant a trip to their nearest Household Waste Recycling centre.

“This way householders can neatly store up these items over time and dispose of their waste in an environmentally friendly and convenient way. I would encourage everyone to make a trip and collect one of these bags for free.”

The waste team will be giving out the bags for free at the following HWRCs:

28/08/12: Lowestoft (10am -12pm) and Leiston (1.15pm-3.15pm)

29/08/12: Bury St Edmunds (10.00am -12pm) and Stowmarket (12.50pm-2.50pm)

30/08/12: Ipswich (9am-11am) Foxhall (11.15am -1.15pm) and Felixstowe (2pm-4pm)

03/09/12: Mildenhall (10am-12pm) and Haverhill (1.15pm-4.15pm)

Any remaining bags will be available for the public to collect after these dates, while stocks last. The waste team are keen to find out how useful the bags have been and will be asking for email contact details for feedback.
